It’s Not About Us | Preservation Foundation
The 31,100 acres protected by the Lake County Forest Preserves are a big part of what makes the quality of life in the county great. For people, and for the thousands of other species we share these spaces with. More threatened and endangered species live in Lake County than anywhere else in Illinois. Habitat restoration supports the richness and resilience of human, plant and animal communities. But it costs about $75 per year to keep one acre of a forest preserve healthy.
If you like what the forest preserves do for you, consider donating to the endowment campaign. Your gift will help provide a perpetual, dependable funding source and ensure every acre of habitat we restore remains ecolo...

It All Depends on the Acorn | Lake County Forest Preserves
Просмотров 33214 дней назад
An acorn contains a baby oak. If given the right support, it will grow into a mighty tree. Many obstacles can stand in the way: invasive species, habitat loss and climate change. Since 1958, the Lake County Forest Preserves has been a principal guardian of the county’s open space and natural areas. Oaks are the foundation of these natural areas. Without them, native plants and animals would dis...

Wildlife Wednesday: Western Chorus Frogs
Просмотров 552Год назад
The mating calls of western chorus frogs (Pseudacris triseriata) have been filling the air lately. ✨ During its March-May mating season, this frog is very vocal in Lake County. Its call sounds like someone dragging their fingernail along a comb. Listen near vernal ponds-seasonal pools of water that often serve as breeding habitat for amphibians-and roadside ditches. Wet weather such as we’re se...

Ethel Untermyer Conservation Forum: Building with a Light Touch
I've always been impressed by the conservation and trail design of the Lake County Forest Preserves. It's one thing for the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and other federal agencies to protect vast wilderness areas in the West that were never developed, but it's another thing entirely for a local agency to perform the kinds of ecological preservation and recreational services that the LCFPD pulls off in the heart of the Chicago suburbs. Thank you all for doing what you do!
Basic rumba box with extra emphasis on the back step . . .
Impressive introduction
😊
I’m watching this alone in my apartment
I appreciate the forest preserves in Illinois!
Pretty and nice introduction
"Yooo hooo, over here"
Thank you for recording and posting this valuable educational video.
An endangered species if I ever saw one.
Beautiful
Although the music wasn't synced too good to their movements, it was a good choice to go with that step, bob, step of theirs.😂 Animals are a lot of fun!
Lovely!
Sweet dance moves! Woodcocks 🐦
My only problem here is it was not long enough…bless these dudes…so unique and adorable ❤
Lol, do those type of birds actually walk like that? 😂😂
Yes, lots more videos, hit search woodcocks!😊
I guess you've never seen a woodcock before. They do walk like that
HAHAHA! A hard act to follow. Epic.
>Must cross street quickly and safely >Must always look fabulous and celebrate Compromise.
🤣😂🤣👍
"Whoa whoa guys - guy with a camera - time to look like pulsating gross inedible blobs again."
When I was little I chased one of these all over the park because I really thought it was injured and wanted to help it, then he just flies away no problem, I was like HEY YOU TRICKED ME
The bird version of "GOTCHA BITCH!"
Antigone canadensis not grus
So cooler is Crane
I wish you would have elaborated about the basil oil. Like what that is where to get it and how much to mix. U wereso close but missed the mark. And that is a stupid aplicator. Theres lots of applicators ready to use.
It probably a way to disguise yourself. From above it might look like movements in leaves. Stuff, moved by the wind.
I could sound like a krane
Abhi abhi aasman me dekha bhut uper ud rhe h 😍❤❤❤❤❤
What would you rcommend for a tree that has already been cut? I have a buckthorn problem, but I didnt really know what I was dealing with until I cut a few of the larger ones down so I could actually get into the area and see what the situation was. I know now that I shouldn't cut any more down until I have some herbicide to treat the stumps with, but what about the ones I already cut down? I did cut them quite high up, so each stump is maybe 12" tall. If I recut them close to the ground and apply herbicide, will that work? Should I wait for them to start sprouting again?
im not a pro, just a regular buckthorn killing kinda guy. herbacide gets applied within 5 mins. after 30 mins then re-cut the stump. dont get to close to ground because soil with weaken the juice. keep up the good work. best done fall winter
Winter is a great time to enter your woods to treat buckthorn I like to apply the triclopyr oil mixture to the bottom 1 foot of the tree trunk No need to cut the tree down Make sure to target the berry producing buckthorns in your wood first And remember don’t cut buckthorn down unless you treat them with herbicide cutting does not kill the tree Cut stump treatment is best but if you have a big woods the spray and leave standing technique is fast and effective for the larger trees
with the grandaddys the bark turns inward protecting the phloem. this is such a stubborn evil plant. cutting them down is beyond any doubt effective.. thanks Bob
mmm buckthorn . . . . .
Why triclopyr over glyphosate?
Triclopyr has better results on trees and shrubs for the most part. Glyphosate still works though and is better if you want to replant in the area
❤❤❤❤
How about glysophate ?
nice
very helpful thank you
Loved seeing the video and the strawberry moon. Suggestion: you don't need the music. It's distracting. Otherwise, thumbs up.
Use of synthetic chemical herbicides is despicable and harms the very ecology proponents of "conservation" claim to wish to protect. Such practices are intolerable and must be stopped.
Very helpful, but the music is distracting.
What a love
thank you love you
Too fast
Does the Garlon 3 foliar spray work on honeysuckle?
I dont know if you restore the farm field wouldn't invasive species take over like queen Anne lace or teasals? Good idea maybe the plants will be more tolerant to heat.
Too short, waste of time
wrong
Woodcocks are never a waste of time.
Just repeat.
PeeWee himself would be envious.
Yes he would ❤️ RIP Mr Reubens
Love these birds! Do remember Pee Wee. ♥️
